Checking in with farmers in Chanyanya

Update from the field: Checking in with farmers in Chanyanya

As COVID-19 continues to loom over the world, our field staff at Tevel b’Tzedek have found ways to support the villagers of Chanyanya while following the guidelines for preventing the spread of the virus. Before COVID-19, farmers would meet with our Agronomist, Bright Mwamba, in groups to participate in agricultural trainings. Group meetings, of course, stopped due to COVID-19. Bright has spent the last month conducting home visits, to visit farmers on their individual farms in order to offer support and answer questions, all while maintaining 2 meters (6 feet) distance and wearing a mask. It’s taking him longer to conduct one-on-one meetings, but safety is a priority. Through home visits he is able to support community members, answer their agricultural questions, provide professional extension services, and gain a thorough understanding of community needs. We are glad to be able to support the farmers through this difficult time and thank our donors who have made this possible through their continuous support.
